NYC DCAS Fleet Retools Through Hiring Halls

The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Fleet has been working to fill staff vacancies in various areas including the Fleet Office of Real Time Tracking (FORT), vehicle claims administration, and the vehicle acquisitions unit.
"Fleet is a data and process heavy area of city operations and relies on a team of analysts to produce a wide variety of performance reporting and fleet administration," DCAS wrote in a newsletter.
A staffing solution was found through the DCAS Hiring Hall Initiative. In the last two months, DCAS Fleet has hired four staff through hiring halls: Istiak Hussain and Tyler Thomas for the FORT; Jasly Martinez for our Acquisitions and Fiscal Unit; and Ramchand Ramnarine for Vehicle Claims Management. Reynold Chen also recently joined the acquisitions team.

The DCAS hiring halls have been offered weekly throughout the city since February. At each event, DCAS joins city agencies to meet and interview New Yorkers looking to join city government. City agency reps introduce themselves and their agencies, present job opportunities, interview candidates, and make job offers, all same day, often same hour. Over 1,000 employees have been hired through DCAS' hiring halls so far, according to the city.
One of our new hiring hall hires, Istiak Hussain, had a longer history with fleet. In 2016, as a junior at Thomas Edison CTE high school, Istiak was part of an automotive repair internship program, working at NYPD’s Shop 1 in Queens. After finishing high school and college, Istiak attended one of the first hiring halls in February and is now working as an analyst for the FORT.
