In an effort to address growing data privacy concerns, Teletrac Navman has launched an Enhanced Privacy Mode feature for Smart Dash Cam users. When surveyed by Teletrac Navman, a Vontier company, 23% of fleets expressed concerns over data privacy concerning cameras and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Balancing Privacy and Safety in the Public Sector
When asked how this would apply to the public sector, Alain Samaha, President of Teletrac Navman, said, “The public sector is similar to the private sector in that they have high awareness of privacy while also recognizing the need to prioritize safety. They also acknowledge that AI will improve safety. Privacy mode seeks to balance privacy with both AI with safety.”
He added that “nearly half the fleets that we surveyed were commercially impacted by unsafe behaviors. Given that, establishing a culture of safety in the workplace is one of the most significant challenges operators face today. This includes everything from making sure that a vehicle is well maintained–and road worthy–to training.”
A Feature Designed to Meet Evolving Fleet Expectations
In response, Teletrac Navman has rolled out Enhanced Privacy Mode, which allows fleet managers to pause driver-facing video recordings while continuing to capture in-cab audio alerts and inward alert data.
“With features like Enhanced Privacy Mode, we can protect employees while simultaneously leveraging advancements in safety,” said Andrew Rossington, Chief Product Officer, at Teletrac Navman. Enhanced Privacy Mode enables fleet managers to monitor unsafe driving practices, like mobile phone use and erratic driving, without compromising driver privacy.
