Nevada Fleets Adopt Data-Driven Tools to Support Energy Resilience and Smarter Operations

Nevada is equipping all state-operated vehicles with Geotab telematics to track energy use and emissions under Senate Bill 505, aiming to improve fleet oversight while reducing costs and downtime.

The State of Nevada has begun installing Geotab telematics devices in all state-operated vehicles. The program, fully funded by the Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE), is intended to help agencies meet the crucial requirements of Senate Bill (SB) 505 while providing state agency fleets with data-driven insights to optimize operations.

Tracking Energy Use and Emissions

SB 505 requires comprehensive tracking and reporting of energy use and emissions from state vehicle fleets. Geotab's telematics solution will provide monthly fuel and energy usage reports for every vehicle, allowing the state to track energy consumption across its fleet.

After eight months of data processing, Geotab will deliver a Fleet Asset Utilization report identifying potential areas for operational improvement and possible transitions to alternative vehicles. This encompasses insights into fuel consumption for each state vehicle, and where feasible, a dedicated CO2 report to track and quantify carbon emissions.

“Geotab gives us the visibility we need to track how fuel and energy are being used across the state fleet,” said Dwayne McClinton, director of the Nevada Governor's Office of Energy. “This is essential to meeting the goals of SB 505.”

Funding Expands Access for State Agencies

The funding for this initiative enables all Nevada state agencies to adopt Geotab telematics without impacting their individual budgets. Agencies can now make data-driven decisions to support decisions on fleet use and maintenance.

As part of the initiative, the GOE has also extended the reach of Altitude by Geotab to all state agencies. This program provides analytics to state agencies for traffic management, infrastructure planning, and public safety.

"Nevada is demonstrating true leadership by leveraging strategic funding to achieve achieve efficiency and cost management goals," said Neil Garrett, associate vice president, Public Sector Business Development at Geotab. "The data provided by Geotab helps agencies meet the requirements of SB 505 and improve fleet operations."
