The City of Loveland, Colo., has announced that Corey Lane, fleet technician and 22-year city employee, has been recognized with the “Emergency Vehicle Technician of the Year” award from a national publication.
Firehouse Magazine is a trade journal for firefighters. Lane will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., to receive the award in January.

Lane maintains, repairs, and keeps records on 66 vehicles in the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority fleet, 23 of which fall into the “heavy fire apparatus” category. In addition to being a mechanic, he is a teacher, conducting several courses for firefighters and engineers on such topics as foam system maintenance, cold weather operations, and pressure governor applications. He is on call 24/7 to make emergency field repairs.
Lane’s nomination letter documented a miraculous rescue that he performed, procuring a transmission for a wildland firefighting brush truck that broke down in the field, getting it back into service in six hours instead of days or weeks.
This is the second time a Loveland fleet technician has won the national award. In 2009, Warren Miller, another Public Works employee and fire mechanic, was chosen for this same award.
