The City of Lake City, Fla., is considering leasing fleet vehicles to reduce operating costs, according to the Lake City Reporter.

Enterprise Fleet Management presented several options to the city during an April 19 meeting.

Lake City operates more than 100 vehicles in its general purpose fleet, which does not include emergency service vehicles. The city is currently on a 21-year replacement cycle, with 45 percent of the vehicles 10 years or older. City Manager Wendell Johnson said it costs $308 a month for maintenance per vehicle.

Leasing vehicles through Enterprise would shorten the replacement cycle from 21 years to five to seven. Vehicle maintenance could also be reduced to $36.62 per month per vehicle, according to the Reporter.

The more vehicles that come on board with the program, the more cost savings the city will reap, said John Toma, Fleet Management Division group sales manager. Toma said Lake City would become the first city in the area to come on board with the program.

Johnson said he and Administrative Services Director Grayson Cason had reviewed the data presented by Enterprise thoroughly. They, along with city attorney Herbert Darby, will review the details of the proposal again and return to the council with a recommendation by May 3, according to the Lake City Reporter.
