The Lubricants Packaging Management Association (LPMA) powered by Interchange 360, announced that the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) has approved its Individual Program Plan (IPP), making LPMA the first industry-led Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) to secure approval under Colorado’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law.
This makes Colorado the first to provide choice and flexibility rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Approved IPPs will manage petroleum- and automotive-related packaging, including oil and antifreeze containers, through a compliance model built by and for the lubricants industry.
This approval exemplifies the challenges that are specific to lubricant packaging, including hazardous material handling that general-purpose packaging does not address.
LPMA is active in California, Maine, Minnesota, Vermont, and Oregon, with additional rollouts planned as legislation moves forward across the country.
LPMA will begin onboarding producers and collaborate with regulators and stakeholders to ensure a smooth rollout for the program's launch in spring 2026.
