Hitachi’s newest reduced-tail-swing excavator, the ZX345USLC-6, features the company’s TRIAS II three-pump hydraulic system. According to Hitachi, the system provides multi-
functioning performance and “some of the fastest cycle times in the industry.”
Jonny Spendlove, product marketing manager, excavators, Hitachi Construction Machinery – Americas, mentioned the product’s tight-tail-swing radius as a benefit to government operators in the area of leaving a small footprint for quick work.
“This is a big benefit, especially on road projects where space is at a premium,” he said. “With a reduced tail-swing model, only one lane is needed for operation.”
Spendlove described the three-pump hydraulic system as providing a great deal more hydraulic flow than “normal systems.” Upon demand, the third pump supplies additional hydraulic oil to the swing circuit, and it does that without stealing oil and speed from other functions.

Cab, Undercarriage for Comfort, Safety
The full-size cab is a benefit of the ZX345USLC-6. It includes a standard air-suspension heated seat and short-throw pilot levers for fingertip control. Spendlove also described the standard auxiliary function lever with sliding switch on the right-hand pilot joystick as providing “easy and precise control” of attachments.
Government agencies interested in durability should like what Spendlove describes as the “hefty undercarriage” of the ZX345USLC-6.
“Safety is always paramount, and that undercarriage has a lower center of gravity and provides increased lift capacity,” he said.
