Whether you're reading this before GFX or during the event, by now you're most likely aware of what a big deal the Government Fleet Expo & Conference is. 

Planning for the next event actually begins before the one we're planning for begins. For example, while we're in full go-mode for the 2025 event in Charlotte, North Carolina, we've already been talking about things we want to do in order to make the 2026 GFX even better. We're already discussing sessions we want to have, things we want to improve, and ways we can make it easier for individuals to attend. 

GFX has always been and will always be a place for you. 

And before I get ahead of myself discussing GFX 2026, I want to talk about this year's event and how I hope you are able to make this a time to connect, re-connect, and maybe, if you haven't done so in the past, be the first to reach out to someone who is new. 

One of my favorite parts of GFX is getting to talk with all of you. So many times throughout the year, we'll communicate via phone, email, video calls, and texts, but I appreciate seeing everyone in person. But what I also love is those moments when I can step back for a moment and see you all talking with each other. As I've heard many times before, and can attest to this myself, the public sector community is like a family. 

Just like any family, the public sector fleet world has its extended members—people we may not talk to often, or maybe haven’t had the chance to really get to know yet. And just like in a family, sometimes all it takes is one conversation to bring someone into the fold.

At GFX, fleets are all under the same roof, often facing similar challenges, working toward similar goals. So if you see someone standing off to the side, or catch a name badge from an agency you’ve never interacted with—introduce yourself. There’s a good chance they’re looking to connect too. 

These moments are where professional relationships start, and where someone on the outside may become someone you rely on and vice versa. 

Before the sessions start and the keynotes begin (maybe after the First Timer's Orientation or during the networking coffee break), take a moment to look around. Every handshake, every quick chat between sessions, every new introduction can all build something bigger than just a professional network. It can build trust, it can build a better understanding, and it can build relationships.

Whether you're attending GFX for the first time or you've been coming for years, there's always someone new to meet and something new to learn. So take that first step. Say hello. You never know how one conversation at GFX might shape what you do next, or who you’ll have in your corner when you need it most.
