Webb County, Texas, has entered into an agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management for the lease and management of 30 vehicles. If the initial program goes well, the county will contract with Enterprise to lease all 500 of its light-duty vehicles, for an estimated savings of $170,000 each year.

"Webb County has a large and aging fleet spread out across our service area, which can be a real challenge to manage efficiently," said John Galo, Webb County commissioner. "Partnering with Enterprise Fleet Management will let us realize significant cost savings and provide us more dependable vehicles to do work for our residents."

Previously, more than 200 of Webb County's vehicles were 11 years old of age or older, or had logged more than 129,000 miles.

Enterprise will manage the routine and regular maintenance for Webb County's leased vehicles. The project is expected to provide the county with greater insight into maintenance schedules, records, and expenses, according to the company. Enterprise will also handle vehicle remarketing. When the program is fully operational, Enterprise will be providing vehicle registration and reporting metrics to ensure proper fleet optimization.

Historically, the county’s approach to fleet management had been decentralized, with each individual department controlling and managing its own fleet. Employees in the county’s Road and Bridge Department maintain the vehicles, and will continue to maintain the rest of the fleet.

The 30 vehicles consist of Ford F-350, F-250, and F-150 trucks as well as passenger and cargo vans.  Enterprise’s network of auto service providers will maintain these vehicles.

The county selected Enterprise because of its extensive experience managing medium-sized municipal fleets. The county is a member of the Interlocal Purchasing System, of which Enterprise Fleet Management is an awarded vendor.
