Raleigh to Build New Facility to House Fleet Maintenance

The City of Raleigh, N.C., is moving ahead with a project to build a new remote operations facility, which will house the City’s Vehicle Fleet Services division, among a wide range of other City departments.
The City’s fleet services department currently operates out of a facility described as “outdated and inadequately sized” in a report that detailed reasons for the new facility. In September 2011, the City had authorized the city manager to enter into a contract with Williard Ferm Architects for planning and design services.
The new Vehicle Fleet Services building, as proposed by Williard Ferm, will provide 68,978 sq. ft. for vehicle service, preventive maintenance, and related support. The facility will contain eight heavy-duty vehicle maintenance bays, two heavy-duty vehicle preventive maintenance bays, 10 light-duty vehicle service bays, a parts department, tire and alignment service bays, a welding shop, a dedicated CNG service bay, a vehicle chassis wash, a training room, administrative offices, and employee locker, break, and support areas.
The architecture firm designed the fleet maintenance facility so it can be expanded at a later date.
