The Minnesota man who overcharged for police vehicles while working at a dealership has been sentenced to 30 days in prison and five years of probation, the Fergus Falls Journal reported. Gerald Glen Worner, the former fleet manager of Nelson Auto Center pleaded guilty to felony theft for charging law enforcement agencies for vehicle equipment that came standard.
Worner entered an Alford plea of guilty while asserting innocence. His attorney argued that it was not premeditated, and that Worner repeatedly requested clarification about the state’s bidding process.
Nelson Auto Center has the state contract for Ford police cars and SUVs. The total amount overcharged was $380,000 over three years.
Restitution has been paid to nearly all departments, KVRR reported.
