The former fleet manager at Nelson Auto in Minnesota has been charged for overcharging law enforcement agencies for equipment on police vehicles that were not included. Gerry Worner has been accused of theft by swindle and charged with five felonies, KVRR reported.
Nelson Auto has the state contract for Ford police cars and SUVs. The total amount overcharged was $380,000 over three years.
The dealership became aware of the problem in April and immediately fired Worner, Echo Press reported. That same month, the dealership informed customers that they may be due for a refund. Worner charged extra for standard equipment that should have been included in the price specified in state contracts, such as engine block heaters, spotlights, heated mirrors, and deactivated rear windows.
