KILLEEN, TX – On Dec. 12, the City of Killeen announced that Fleet Services Director Kim Randall retired effective immediately, technician David Riddle resigned effective immediately, and technician John Acker was terminated effective immediately.
These actions occurred following an investigation of the Fleet Services Division, which began in October. The three had been on administrative leave since Oct. 5.
The investigation involved all aspects of the operation of the Fleet Services Division. According to the City’s public information officer, the investigation “found evidence of mismanagement including appropriation of city time and equipment.” She was unable to provide any more information at press time.
“The citizens of Killeen deserve the absolute best services that city government can provide,” said City Manager Glenn Morrison in a release. “These changes were necessary to ensure the future success of fleet services.”
According to KWTX, Randall had worked for the City since 1988. The news source additionally stated that Killen Finance Director Barabara Gonzalez was also fired as a result of the investigation.
The Fleet Services Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all city vehicles.
Erich Morsbach has been appointed interim fleet services director to continue operations until a permanent replacement is selected. Morsbach is a commander in the police department's Patrol Division; he managed the internal investigation, according to the PIO.
