Ivy

Ernie Ivy, previously fleet management division director, City and County of Denver, retired Feb. 1. Ivy has 43 years of experience in fleet management, and for 32 of those years, he was with Denver Fleet Management. He began at Denver in 1981 as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Ivy said one of the accomplishments he’s most proud of is greening Denver’s fleet and becoming a leader in that area. He was named a Sustainability All-Star by Green Fleet magazine. Of the agency’s 2,000 units, 53% are fueled by some form of alternative fuel.

Another notable accomplishment is developing one of the most cost efficient and innovative fleets in the nation during difficult economic times. Ivy led the fleet to a consistently high rank in the 100 Best Fleets program; in 2012, Denver Fleet Management ranked 4th.

“I loved working for Denver Fleet Management for 32 years,” Ivy said. “We would not have been able to attain our notable accomplishments without the support of Public Works Deputy Manager George Delaney and especially Bill Vidal, Public Works manager and Denver mayor.”

Felix Espinoza, previously Manager 1 in the Operations side of the Fleet division, is serving as interim fleet manager. Denver is looking to restructure the fleet division before hiring a replacement for Ivy.

Ivy is currently seeking another position in the fleet profession; he still retains the position of Chair of the Colorado Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association (RMFMA).
