Tim Calhoun, CAFM, fleet director for the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue in Florida, has announced that he will be retiring in May. His last day is May 22.

"I’ve been blessed to have a job that I love and enjoy every day," he said.

At the Fire Rescue, Calhoun managed a total of 428 vehicles, ranging from cars and vans to aerials. His proudest accomplishments during his time there is the refurbishment of patient boxes on rescue trucks and remounting these onto new cab and chassis. The trucks, refurbished to look brand new, saved taxpayers $100,000 per vehicle. With 54 front-line rescue trucks scheduled to be replaced every six years, this project saved the department $5.4 million every six years.

He is a past president of the Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA), and he will continue to be involved with the association’s scholarship program and conference planning committee.

“Much of the success and guidance that I have had in my career I can attribute to my association with FLAGFA. The networking opportunities have created relationships that will continue long after I retire,” he said.

The Fire Rescue is looking for a replacement, and Calhoun recommended it hire someone with a military background or an accounting background, and who has experience supervising union employees.

Calhoun was inducted into the Public Fleet Hall of Fame in 2019.

Calhoun said his plans for retirement involve a new boat.
