A public utility employee has died after being electrocuted on the job. Samuel Thompson, a lineman for the City of Danville, Va., was responding to a power outage in an elevated bucket truck when the accident occurred. Thompson was a lineman for the city utility for over 20 years, reports WSLS.
According to GoDanRiver, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the death, with involvement from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). The City also plans to conduct an internal probe.
Jereme Garner, a lineman with Randolph County Electric (N.C.), told WFMY that more accidents happen involving utility crews in the month of July due to summer storms, hot temperatures, and more work that requires a response.
