President John F. Kennedy's midnight blue Lincoln Continental limousine remained in the Presidential motorcade for another 13 years, after his assassination in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
The 1961 model-year vehicle is now housed at The Hentry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., reports the New York Daily News.
Following the assassination, President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered it repainted black. Due to economics, the vehicle couldn't be taken out of service, so it was rebuilt. It was returned to the firm of Hess & Eisenhardt.
A bulletproof and non-removable roof was added and titanium plating was installed in the trunk. A steel floor was added that could wihstand grenades. A new and more powerful engine was added.
