Six out of 15 refuse trucks were destroyed after catching fire at a maintenance facility in the town of Huntington, New York, on Long Island. The fire broke out on Saturday, December 3. Residents reported hearing explosions, as the truck tires burned.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. However, it doesn't appear to be suspicious, according to a statement from Town Supervisor Ed Smyth.
Loaner Trucks Roll In
Household garbage pickup routes will continue despite the fire. The neighboring town of Oyster Bay provided five loaner trucks to the community to help fill the gap, according to a Facebook post. Huntington officials also reported they reached out to their truck dealer to expedite the delivery of previously purchased trucks that were set to replace aging vehicles.
