New Altavista, Va., Police Department vehicles are going from black and white to red, white, and blue.
WSET ABC 13 News reports Chief Tommy Merricks said it typically cost around $2,000 to add graphics to the older vehicles, whereas the new ones only costs around $700.
According to Merricks, the old design required either the doors be wrapped in white or the hood and fender be wrapped in black which was costly and less durable.
All-white vehicles are also cheaper, so the overall saving per vehicle is around $1,500.
