Thurston County, Wash., has hired Bryan Hanks as its fleet services manager. His first day was Dec. 1.
Hanks oversees the county’s fleet of 350 light-duty vehicles, 320 heavy equipment assets, and numerous pieces of light equipment, materials, parts supply services, and radio communication equipment services. As fleet manager, he manages 12 employees, an annual operating budget of approximately $5 million, and an equipment replacement fund of almost $12 million.
Most recently, Hanks completed 27 years in the U.S. Army. He has extensive experience in Army logistics and fleet management, and as senior logistics officer, was responsible for more than 33,000 equipment platforms across the base.
Hanks is already taking steps to ensure a successful transition by establishing mentoring relationships with other local government fleet managers, attending Public Fleet Managers Association events, and completing his bacherlors degree in management.
He replaces Peter Bednar, who joined the Ventura County, Calif., fleet as its fleet operations manager earlier this year.
