City of Petersburg, Va., leaders are investigating its acting city manager after a crash involving a fleet vehicle, NBC12 reported.

Former Fleet Manager Ryan Mitchem just resigned after receiving a check with a 10% reduction in pay, a pay cut ordered for all full-time employees to manage a $17 million budget deficit. He said Dironna Belton, acting city manager, first told him she struck a white box truck and drove away. Weeks later she said she hit a pole with the vehicle. The city has two incident reports for the crash, only one of which was written by Mitchem.

City policy states that employees involved in crashes in fleet vehicles must be drug tested and the incident reported right away.

Belton’s powers to hire, fire, and allocate funding have been stripped.
