The Knox County, Tennessee, Sheriff fired three employees following an internal affairs investigation that found they had inmates work on personal projects at fleet services, WATE reported.

Sheriff Tom Spangler announced this week that Scott Moore, Ivan Harmon, and Larry Hurst had been terminated, and he noted in a statement the actions of these men “are not representative of the majority of the hardworking men and women at the Sheriff’s Office.”

Knox County Sheriff’s Office has inmate workers working in a full-service garage. Hurst had inmates at fleet services work on an air conditioner and fix up a car hauler trailer for him. Harmon and Moore are accused of taking inmates to their personal properties to work and bringing horse trailers to fleet services for inmates to work on, according to WATE.

In December, the Sheriff’s Office’s former fleet manager Ronnie Kidd pleaded guilty to a felony charge of official misconduct and is serving two years of unsupervised probation. Prosecutors said he asked an inmate working under him at fleet services to steal an $80,000 Bentley. The owner of the Bentley then filed a false police report about the missing vehicle, according to Knox News.
