Ron Lindsey, CAFS, the fleet management director for San Bernardino County, California, and a leader in the fleet community, died over the weekend, according to the county.

Lindsey had most recently been serving as the county's director of fleet management, a role he held since 2017. He was also certified as a facility management professional from the International Facility Management Association. Lindsey was also a member of the advisory board for Government Fleet.

“I was heartbroken to hear of Ron’s unexpected passing,” said Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Dawn Rowe. “His enthusiasm, intelligence, and leadership style contributed to the success of our county’s fleet management. He will be greatly missed, but his positive contributions to the county will be with us for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his entire team in Fleet Services during this difficult time.”

Lindsey began his storied career with the San Bernardino County as a fleet and stores manager in 2005. He was then quickly promoted to fleet services manager in 2006 and held that position until he took a brief hiatus from the county in 2012 to pursue the role of superintendent of fleet operations with the city of Anaheim before taking on the title of San Bernardino fleet management director in 2017.

“What I most appreciated about Ron’s leadership was how he mentored and encouraged young people,” said Supervisor Janice Rutherford. “He loved having high school students tour Fleet and enjoyed talking with them about careers in the county. His commitment to customer service and his drive to help the County excel will be missed.”

San Bernardino County Fleet Management was named the nation’s No. 1 leading public fleet in 2017.

“Ron’s ever-present smile and his genuine warmth will never be forgotten,” said Assistant Executive Officer Diana Alexander. “Ron has always been and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who strives to be positive, compassionate, and effective.”

All flags flying at county facilities were directed to be lowered to half-staff as a show of respect for Lindsey and an acknowledgment of what he meant to the county organization.
