The Clayton County (Ga.) Fire & Emergency Services has unveiled three new fire apparatus last week and nine ambulances in July as part of a fleet modernization program.

The fire units consist of two 2016 Pierce Enforcer pumpers and a 2015 Ford F-550 mini-pumper. The ambulance units are 2015 Chevrolet G4500 Series ambulances that have a smaller chassis than the fleet of 2000-2003 Ford E-450 ambulances previously in service.

The new vehicles are funded by the 2015 Special-Purpose Local-Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) that was voted in by the citizens of Clayton County.

The fleet modernization program began in April 2014, Fire Chief Landry Merkison stated. When complete, the roll-out will consist of 22 new additions to Fire and Emergency Services.

The department will receive one more mini-pumper in three weeks and two more full-size Pierce Enforcer pumpers in February, the Clayton News Daily reported. This is the largest vehicle replacement the fleet has ever done.

Replacing the older fleet with these new units will help save the department money, according to the department.
