Rivian has launched its Commercial Van, which will be available to fleets across the U.S. next year.

Previously, Rivian only sold its vans to Amazon, Work Truck previously reported. Now, it's expanding that to include all commercial fleets.

The Commercial Van is built on the same platform as the Amazon Electric Delivery Van (EDV).

With Amazon’s commitment to bring 100,000 EDVs on the road by 2030, as well as the opportunity to deploy the Rivian Commercial Van across the country, fleets will help save millions of metric tons of carbon per year across their communities, the company noted in a news release.

To maximize its environmental impact, Rivian will initially prioritize larger fleet requests and begin small-scale deployments in 2024, prior to scaling deliveries in 2025. 

“Around a quarter of CO2 emitted in the US transportation sector comes from commercial vans. We can make a real difference in helping businesses reduce their carbon output, to help make our cities and our planet less polluted," Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said.

Setting the Standard for Safety

The standard safety features on the Rivian Commercial Van include:

• Automatic emergency braking.

• Driver assistance features.

• Three airbags.

• A 360-degree camera system, which the driver can view on the 15.6’’ center display screen to understand their surroundings. 

The van's design also focuses on efficiency and ergonomics for the driver, and includes a sliding curb-side door, a rear roll-up door, an automated bulk-head door, heated, and cooled drivers’ seat and heated steering wheel.

Moving Forward with Advanced Features

Rivian’s in-house software stack controls nearly every interaction the user has with the vehicle, from unlocking it and automatically opening the bulk-head door, to charging and acceleration controls.

This enables Rivian to provide easy access to critical fleet information, including real-time data and remote commands, driver and vehicle insights, alerts, and analytics. These tools are meant to streamline fleet ownership and minimize costs, while increasing safety and productivity. 

Choose Your Van Size

The Rivian Commercial Van will be available in two sizes: the Delivery 500 and the Delivery 700.

The Delivery 500 is the smaller of the two sizes, well suited for urban settings. It starts with a 9,350-lb. GVWR, a 2,734-lb. payload and a 157.5-in. wheelbase. The vehicle has an estimated range of 161 miles. Pricing for the Delivery 500 begins at $83,000.

The Delivery 700 has a 9,500-lb. GVWR, a 2,513-lb. payload, and a 187-in. wheelbase. It has an estimated range of 153 miles. Pricing for the Delivery 700 begins at $87,000.

Both sizes feature J1772 and CCS1 combo charging, allowing for flexibility in charging infrastructure and strategies. The van is capable of charging speeds up to 100 kW.

Fleets can choose to upfit through Rivian. Shelving and flooring upfit options will be available from the factory.

Expect to see the Rivian Commercial Van on the road within a year, with deliveries set to begin in 2024.
