Providence Fire Department in Rhode Island unveiled six of its eight new fire trucks on July 30.
The new additions include four engines, one tower ladder, and a special hazards truck, according to a report from WPRI. A new rescue and aerial truck will reportedly also be added to the fleet in the coming weeks.
The vehicles were purchased through grant funding awarded to the department under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA's) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), and also the city.
“It’s imperative that our firefighters have the best possible resources available to them and we thank the members of our federal delegation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for their ongoing support and for assisting the PFD to secure funding to purchase new, state-of-the-art vehicles for the Providence Fire Department,” Mayor Jorge Elorza said in an official Facebook post.
In December 2020, the Providence Fire Department purchased nine new fire apparatus from Pierce Manufacturing. The order included four Saber pumpers, four 100-foot heavy-duty aerial ladders, and an ascendant 100-foot heavy-duty aerial tower.
