Report Details Mass. City's Aging Fire Fleet
The Pittsfield (Mass.) Fire Department's fleet "is not well suited" to respond to several types of incidents due to its age, and the city doesn't have a plan in place to replace the vehicles, according to a report prepared by a consultant.

The Pittsfield (Mass.) Fire Department's fleet "is not well suited" to respond to several types of incidents due to its age, and the city doesn't have a plan in place to replace the vehicles, according to a report prepared by a consultant.
"The city of Pittsfield Fire Department's fleet of nine major vehicles is made up of an aging group of poorly planned and designed apparatus," according to a summary of the report prepared by consultants Michael Wilbur and Thomas Shard of Emergency Vehicle Response Fire Protection Services. They presented the 64-page report to the City Council on Feb. 23.
The report singled out apparatus that was acquired in 1988 and 1992 and has been rebuilt.
