Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services in Maryland has a new fleet of 25 fire engines representing a nearly $25 million investment. The trucks have a smaller frame that can more easily maneuver through heavy traffic and pedestrian-heavy streets, Bethesda Magazine reported.

They have high-capacity pumps capable of releasing up to 1,500 gallons per minute as well as 1.5-inch hoses that deliver the same amount of water as 2.5-inch hoses.

The Pierce fire engines are low profile with a shorter wheel-based design and lower hose beds. The engines will be staffed with a driver, officer, paramedic, and firefighter and will respond to many types of calls, including medical, fire, and rescue, according to the Fire & Rescue’s public information officer. Their life expectancy is five to seven years for front-line use and another five to seven years in reserve. The engines, including equipment, cost $931,400 each.
