Ga. County’s New Pumper Helps Modernize Fire Fleet
Camden County (Ga.) Fire Rescue recently put into service a new pumper truck as part of its plan to modernize the fire rescue fleet. This is one of 17 new vehicles that have been added to the fire fleet since 2014.

Camden County (Ga.) Fire Rescue recently put into service a new pumper truck as part of its plan to modernize the fire rescue fleet.
The 2016 Freightliner rescue pumper was purchased with special-purpose local-option sales tax (SPLOST) funds for $255,990 and is one of 17 new vehicles that have been added to the fire fleet since 2014. These vehicles, along with hydraulic stretcher lift systems, mark over $2.5 million in upgraded equipment for Fire Rescue in the last four years, according to the county.
Earlier in June, the Camden County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a new 4-door pumper in an effort to continue to modernize Fire Rescue vehicles. The new pumper will be ready for deployment in 2018.
“We are very excited about this new engine,” said Camden County Fire Chief Mark Crews in a statement. “This vehicle replaces an older, more costly to maintain engine that has served its purpose and will now fall into a back-up position with much less use.”
An investigation by First Coast News found that 60% of the county’s equipment failed a test that shows whether enough water cam get through a hose to reach a fire.
