After several months, the City of Augusta, Ga., has concluded that it would not see immediate savings if it brought fleet maintenance in house, reports the Augusta Chronicle.

The city has outsourced maintenance to First Vehicle Services for the past 14 years. In January, city commissioners decided to look into ending the contract after the Fire Department successfully brought maintenance in house. Since then, city officials have consulted with neighboring agencies and examined its fleet.

According to the Chronicle, a report presented to the fleet subcommittee estimated that bringing fleet in house would come out to $4.42 million, or $4.41 million with an outsourced parts provider. Either scenario would cost more than outsourcing, which was estimated at $4.39 million.
