The Town of Charlton, Mass., Fire Department was awarded a $893,000 grant to replace a 40-year-old aerial ladder truck that is 16 years past its recommended service life, the News Telegram reported.
The grant is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the town is expected to contribute a 5% match of about $47,000.
In 2008, the town planned to save $100,000 per year for truck replacement, but when the recession hit, the save money was used to balance the budget, according to the news source.
Government fleet sales rose from both January and February monthly totals, which were both under 20,000.
