MANASSAS PARK, VA - The Manassas Park City Council voted June 16 to contract with five local businesses to repair and maintain the city vehicles, according to InsideNova.com.

Thirty-one auto repair shops requested bid applications. Ultimately 10 bids were returned to the city. The businesses that were chosen - McCarthy Tire, Finish Line Towing and Automotive, Hartman Fleet Services, James River Equipment and Precision Tune Auto Care - were picked because they met all of the city's requirements, reported InsideNova.com.

Among other requirements, the city asked that the bidding companies have references, fixed costs for common repairs, the experience and commitment to respond 24 hours a day and the ability to secure vehicles, especially police cars, on their premises.

According to city documents, the five companies that were chosen have the collective expertise and ability to fix everything from lawn mowers to snowplows.

Will Armstrong, the city's deputy director of public works, said it's hard to find one company that can do all the repairs on all of the vehicles in the city's fleet, so the city awarded five three-year contracts.

Contracting the work is expected to save money, since vehicle repair and maintenance cost the city roughly $461,000 a year with the city garage, according to InsideNova.com.
