City of Iola Fire Dept. Takes Delivery of Velocity Fire Engine
REDFORD, MI - Detroit Diesel Corporation announced that Pierce Manufacturing has delivered its first EPA 2010-compliant, Detroit Diesel DD13 -powered Velocity fire engine to the Iola, Kan., fire department.
REDFORD, MI - Detroit Diesel Corporation announced that Pierce Manufacturing has delivered its first EPA 2010-compliant, Detroit Diesel DD13 -powered Velocity fire engine to the Iola, Kan., fire department. Pierce Manufacturing, a fire apparatus provider, has first access to the DD13 engine for custom chassis fire apparatus.
Detroit Diesel developed a unique configuration of its DD13 engine to meet Pierce Manufacturing's standard cab widths, wheelbase, and compartment space requirements. The DD13 engine (for Pierce) also features selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emissions technology - the proven emission-reducing technology that meets the stringent 2010 EPA emissions standards at the tailpipe without using credits.
"The DD13 engine is very responsive and runs clean, meeting all of the 2010 EPA regulations," said Mike Moore, vice president of business development for Pierce Manufacturing. "The Detroit Diesel SCR emissions technology provides better overall packaging and performance benefits than what we've seen with competing technologies."
To further meet the needs of the custom chassis fire market, Detroit Diesel also developed the Detroit Diesel Fire Commander II, an electronic pump control that includes a pump inlet and discharge display, engine fault display, and a hot exhaust display to alert the operator in the event of an active regeneration during pump operation.
"Detroit Diesel has worked with Pierce for more than 30 years, when Pierce sold its first custom chassis," said Brad Williamson, component marketing manager for Detroit Diesel. "Through the years, Detroit Diesel has provided Pierce with the best performing engines in the market, and we are proud to continue the tradition with our DD13 engine."
Added Moore: "We look for reliable engines with high horsepower and torque, a nationwide service network that is complementary to the Pierce network, and an engine that packages well with the constraints of a cab-over-chassis configuration. Detroit Diesel and the DD13 do all of that."
