The City of Payette, Idaho, rushed the purchase of a replacement fire engine before the price increased by 25% due to President Trump’s tariff on imported metal, The Argus Observer reported. The city locked in a purchase price of $342,000 by ordering before July 1 from Hughes Fire Equipment in Oregon.
A June 14 memo from the fire chief stated that city already has $290,000 reserved for the purchase of a pumper engine, which will replace a 1985 Pierce engine currently serving as frontline apparatus. This unit would be moved to reserve status.
