Martin Bowman, fleet operations manager for the City of Riverside, Calif., will retire on Dec. 26 after 33 years at the city’s Fleet Management Department. Garrett Reynolds, fleet manager for the City of Corona, Calif., and a former City of Riverside employee who Bowman mentored, will take over his position.
At Riverside, Bowman manages a fleet of 1,368 vehicles and oversees a staff of 35. The city fleet has a $10.9 million annual budget and has nine garages. The fleet maintenance shops are ASE Blue Seal certified.
During his time with the city, he has helped replace 489 diesel and gasoline vehicles with alternative-fuel vehicles and 104 vehicles with gasoline-electric hybrids. Bowman has also been successful in obtaining more than $8 million in grant funding for alternative-fuel vehicles and infrastructure.
During his retirement, Bowman plans to work on remodeling projects, restore his classic cars, and travel. He plans to stay in touch with groups and organizations he has worked with over the years and will consider consulting work.
Bowman said Reynolds was selected as his replacement after a tough selection process, and he’s confident the fleet will continue to thrive.
“[Reynolds] shares the same commitment to continue the efforts and accomplishments that have been made over the last decade here at the City of Riverside, and I expect to see the city fleet to continue to be an award-winning operation,” he said.
