ZANESVILLE, OH - Zanesville Police Department's 2010 proposed budget will force the department to restrict the use of take-home vehicles, eliminate newer technology in cars, explore 13 days of furloughs or layoffs, and ultimately could result in less personnel on shifts, according to the Zanesville Times Recorder.

According to the proposed budget, the police department has been cut $344,467 for 2010. Last year the budget was $6,306,077. In 2010, it will be $5,961,610. The cuts are being made due to the city-wide $2.6 million projected deficit.

Police Chief Eric Lambes said the cuts will reduce services to the public, but the department will "do the best we can with what we have," reported the Recorder.

Officer Tom Porter, who is a union representative for the entire 60-plus employee department, said the union was never asked for its assistance or ideas on how to save money, according to the Recorder.
