BULLHEAD CITY, AZ -- The City of Bullhead City is now selling its surplus city equipment through a government auction site similar to eBay, according to the Mojave Valley News newspaper. The City’s surplus computers, electronics, office equipment, furniture and vehicles are being offered to the public via www.govdeals.com. GovDeals provides services to various governmental agencies that allow them to sell surplus and confiscated assets via the Internet. According to Steve Johnson, city public information officer, govdeals.com gets a small percentage for each item that is listed. However, Johnson said the online auction is easier to administer than a live auction because equipment can be added at any time and transactions can be tracked on the site. Also, according to Rudy Vera, city finance director, the online auction requires less staff time to organize and run than a live auction and anyone around the world can bid on the items. Although there are photos of the items, those items can still be viewed in person by making arrangements with the City, according to Johnson. The site is updated and items are put on the site as they become available. The City does not ship the items, according to Johnson. Payment for the items is arranged through the govdeals.com site. To participate in the auction the user must validate an email address and register with govdeals.com.
