Exploring practical solutions to challenges facing public sector fleet managers, the 2010 Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX) is scheduled June 21-23 in Austin, Texas.

Themed "Taking the Reins, Leading Your Fleet to the Next Level," and presented by Government Fleet magazine, GFX will offer eight sets of concurrent educational sessions and three keynote speakers focused on such issues as budget and staff cuts, fuel efficiencies, and green technology. The Expo floor will feature the latest in industry product/vendor exhibits.

Other highlights include an opening-day tour of the City of Austin fleet facility and a networking dinner, the industry award ceremony, and eight additional formal networking opportunities.

According to organizers, GFX "is the only national event catering solely to public sector fleet managers at the municipal, county, state, and federal levels." The 2009 conference drew more than 500 attendees.

In conjunction with GFX, the American Public Works Association (APWA) will hold its Certified Public Fleet Professional exam, and the Tire Industry Association will present a Tire Maintenance and Safety workshop.
In addition, vendor seminars, including Faster Fleet University, AssetWorks Fleet Software Workshop, and INVERS Motor Pool Workshop, are scheduled at the GFX site June 24.

GFX attendees who register before May 23 are eligible for a $100 discount. Registration details and conference updates are available at www.govfleetexpo.com.

“It was a great opportunity to network and catch up on the latest products. I came away with along list of new ideas and best practices.”
Dan Berlenbach, fleet services manager, City of Oxnard, Calif.

“Due to constant pressure … we sometimes neglect our individual need to network among our top-producing colleagues and see new practices, ideas, and different perspectives, which may result in more proficient management of our operations and fleet assets. At the GFX, these resources and opportunities abound!”
Stephen Kibler, fleet manager, City of Loveland, Colo.

“I was able to meet and network with a lot of peers who I would not have been able to meet at other conferences. I think this was due in part to the economical cost of this conference. Also to the packed schedule over a short period of time. Less time out of the office.”
John Croop, mechanic/assistant fleet manager, Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio.
