The Alamo RidgeRunner, a remote-controlled rotary mower, is nimble enough to handle the most challenging mowing projects on steep slopes, according to Alamo Industrial.
The machine weighs just 993 lbs. and can mow in either direction. It’s rated to cut grass and light brush material up to one inch in diameter. The RidgeRunner features a cutting width of 44 inches, a tight zero-turn radius, and the ability to travel at speeds up to 6.2 mph in forward and reverse.
“The RidgeRunner has a low center of gravity and rubber tracks, which allow the machine to safely operate on slopes up to 50 degrees,” said Doug Baker, national sales manager for Alamo Industrial. “This is crucial for steep slope mowing.”
A Versatile Remote Controller
The remote radio controller features a user information center with an LED display, ensuring that the operator can continuously monitor six key mower functions: travel speed, cutting height, hours of operation, strength of the radio signal, state of the remote control’s battery charge, and mower on/off. With the remote control unit, the operator can also easily make on-the-go changes in travel speed, direction, blade engagement, and mowing height.
“The remote controller allows for maneuvering the machine at a distance, so the operator can stay out of harm’s way and off dangerous slopes,” Baker said.
The mower also boasts a number of safety features. Replaceable heavy steel safety flaps reduce the risk of thrown objects. The twin spindle deck configuration has two custom-designed blade carriers, each equipped with four 360-degree swinging blades that offer breakaway protection in the event of impacts, according to the manufacturer. Additionally, the machine has a one-touch emergency shut-off switch, instant short-circuit braking on both motors, and an LED strobe light.

Simplified Mower Serviceability
Because of its open-style architecture, the RidgeRunner allows easy access to all maintenance points at any roadside location. The deck features a removable access hatch to change mower blades in the field. The twin 2.64-gallon removable fuel tanks make refueling simple, Baker said.
The RidgeRunner features a 24-hp Briggs & Stratton 8720 Commercial Series air-cooled, two-cylinder, four-stroke gasoline engine. Power is transmitted via two 48V brush-type electric motors through infinitely variable gear reduction transmissions, which are permanently lubricated and maintenance-free, according to Alamo Industrial. The standard 5.28-gallon fuel capacity permits continuous cutting for four to five hours.
