Order banks are officially open for the 2025 Ford Expedition Special Service Vehicle (SSV).
The vehicle is designed to support law enforcement, fire departments, and other government agencies with rugged versatility, technology, and capability to tow, carry personnel, and haul their gear, as they deliver public service 24/7.
The announcement comes as the automaker prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary of serving law enforcement vehicle needs in 2025.
“Duty is at the heart of everything our valued law enforcement customers do, and that’s a standard Expedition SSV is built to meet,” Ford Police Brand Marketing Manager Lindsey Bertino said. “We’re very proud to add another all-new vehicle to our police lineup with incredible technology like the panoramic display that departments across the country are looking for.”
Versatility in the Line of Duty
Now in its second generation, the Expedition SSV is available as a two-row configuration with cloth
seating surfaces, vinyl floors, and an array of power points for all areas of the vehicle.
The Expedition Max SSV offers three rows of seating with third Row 60/40 PowerFold with Power Recline to help accommodate personnel and equipment as required.
The vehicle is available with the new Ford Split Gate allowing officers to lift three-quarters of the liftgate for quick access or fold down the lower tailgate to use as a stable platform capable of supporting up to 500 lbs., ideal for organizing gear at a moment’s notice.

A standard 24-in. panoramic display replaces the traditional gauge cluster, placing vital information at eye level.
The Expedition SSV also includes Dark Car, which shuts off all interior lighting to help occupants remain discrete during stakeouts and Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) that helps prevent unauthorized access to cargo.
The Expedition SSV powertrain is standard with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine which develops 400 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque backed by a 4x4 driveline with a new two- speed transfer case with Touch on Demand and 4-Auto.
The Expedition SSV has a 9,600-lb. maximum towing capacity with a load-leveling bar and includes:
Pro Trailer Hitch Assist
Pro Trailer Backup Assist
BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert
BLIS with Trailer Coverage
These features aid officers in hitching, backing, and situational awareness for marine or mounted units and other municipal uses.
The Expedition is the first Ford product to offer two new driver assistance features: Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking 2.2, and Intersection Assist 2.2.
Pre-Collision Assist with AEB 2.2 includes the capability to detect pending collision from oncoming traffic and applies the brakes to reduce the severity of an impact.
Intersection Assist 2.0 includes a similar feature to help detect a potential collision with an oncoming vehicle while the driver is attempting to turn left.
If Intersection Assist detects such a risk from a vehicle, bicycle, motorcycle, or pedestrian, the Expedition SSV will alert the driver and can apply the brakes if needed.
The 2025 Ford Expedition SSV is assembled at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant.

Celebrating 75 Years in Police
The 2025 Expedition joins a lineup of pursuit rated and special service vehicles stretching back to 1950, beginning with the Police Package which applied to the Ford Custom, which then gained the iconic flathead/V8 in 1951.
Among Ford's portfolio of police products are the Bronco Special Purpose, several generations of the
legendary Crown Victoria, the Mustang Patrol, and Police Interceptor Sedan, and the Police Interceptor Utility Hybrid AWD.
Reflecting on Decades of Police Work
In the early 2000s, Ford implemented extreme 75 mph rear crash crumple zones. Additionally, Ford has also worked to add ballistic panels to line doors.
The new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility recently went on sale with its hybrid drivetrain.
The Ford F-150 Police Responder offers a unique combination of capability and utility.
In 2023 the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV was the first purpose-built law-enforcement electric pickup, according to Ford.
The Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle is designed for exactly the task for which it was named and includes upfit equipment needed to do the job.
The Mustang Mach-E has passed testing with the Michigan State Police and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and is now in pilot programs with agencies across the country.
“We are committed to designing products that are durable, safe, purpose-built for law enforcement, upfit friendly, and deliver the performance our customers expect from Built Ford Tough vehicles, that’s what we call our police brand DNA,” Bertino said. “For 75 years we’ve been working with law enforcement, we are grateful to all of the agencies, officers and Ford employees that have helped design and build America’s best-selling lineup of police vehicles.”
