Atlanta-Area Public Fleets Detail Procurement Woes

The computer chip and parts shortage have made purchasing vehicles and much-needed parts difficult for Georgia fleets, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Henry County wants to replace its 1999 Crown Victoria police cars; Cobb County is waiting on hose couplings for fire trucks and is on waiting lists for fire truck ladders; and DeKalb County doesn’t know when 153 police SUVs it ordered will arrive.

Agencies have banded together to put in larger orders, turned to cooperative purchasing contracts, and in Clayton, officers have had to double up on vehicles, the newspaper reported.
