The Washington County, Minn., Public Works Department wants to shift its fleet from a “bust-n-fix” operation to a preventive maintenance (PM) operation in 2014.
In its 2014 budget proposal, Public Works officials state that fleet management currently has a minimum level of PM, it’s difficult to calculate lifecycle costs per vehicle, and there is limited ability to invoice for performed work. Public Works’ 2014 goals are to implement a fleet management system and shift to a PM operation where the majority of work is planned in advance. Officials also hope to determine true lifecycle costs of vehicle ownership and optimize vehicle lifecycles.
