The Tooele County School District in Utah is upgrading its fleet while also reducing its costs — through a leasing agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management, the district expects to save $775,000 over the next 10 years.

The school district has been operating a fleet of 100 administrative vehicles with an average age of about 10 years. Enterprise Fleet Management developed a strategy for the school district for improved efficiency, including downsizing the fleet by 10 vehicles and replacing outdated units with newer models every five years. The company will deliver an initial 45 vehicles to the school district in the first year.

The new vehicles will have the latest in safety and crash-avoidance technologies, such as electronic stability control and backup cameras. They are expected to provide a 40% improvement in fuel economy and lower emissions, while requiring less overall maintenance. The average maintenance cost is expected to be cut by more than two-thirds of the district’s current average monthly cost per vehicle.

The vehicles will be used by the schools and district office for official school business and student activities.

In addition to leasing the new vehicles, Enterprise is providing vehicle licensing, registration, and regular maintenance. Enterprise uses local businesses to provide routine service and delivery of the vehicles. The company will also handle remarketing.

The Tooele County School District oversees 26 schools in Tooele, Utah, and serves 16,000 students in grades K-12.
