KINGSTON, NY – The Government Efficiency and Reform Committee for Ulster County, along with the Purchasing Department, have devised a plan to manage the county's fleet of vehicles and bolster its in-house mechanic staff at a cost of about $15,000, according to the Daily Freeman. The money will pay for employee upgrades and upgrading a mechanic's helper to mechanic. The fleet manager will be responsible for maintaining a new computer program purchased last year by the county. Another goal is to get a preventative maintenance program, according to Purchasing Agent Robin Peruso. Peruso said the county has spent about $90,000 on repairs to date, which is about 40 percent of its annual budget, with less than a quarter of the year gone. The county has roughly 487 vehicles in its fleet.
