The City of Hoover, Ala., will take on the maintenance and repair of the City of Pelham’s fleet vehicles, reported the Shelby County Reporter. The cities entered into five-year fleet maintenance agreement, which goes into effect Feb. 1.

Pelham’s city manager told the Shelby County Reporter that the city will be able to benefit from the City of Hoover’s fleet resources, including a fleet manager and maintenance software. The change is expected to reduce turnaround time for Pelham’s fleet vehicles.

The cities worked together for eight months to iron out the details of the agreement. Pelham’s four mechanics have been encouraged to apply for openings within the Hoover fleet, which is adding two positions to help with the workload. Any of the mechanics who are not hired will be first in line to be hired for a different position if they qualify.
