A public fleet favorite, the Chevy Bolt, is back and brand new.

In 2023, GM chair and CEO Mary Barra announced that the company would end the production of the Bolt and introduce a next-generation Bolt later, as it focused on growing its EV portfolio.

In a statement released then to Government Fleet, Bara said, “Our customers love today’s Bolt...We will keep the momentum going by delivering a new Bolt.”

They have made good on their promise.

Specs

When parked or charging, the Bolt offers in-vehicle apps so you can browse the internet from your dashboard.

The 2027 Bolt will be powered by the X76 electric drive unit, designed by GM. The permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials for improved costs. Segmented magnets reduce heat build-up and energy loss, and silicon carbide inverter materials minimize energy loss between the battery and drive unit.

This will be the 10th GM EV model to use the X76 driving unit.

It will also include a blended regenerative braking system for increased efficiency. This technology allows the Bolt to return brake energy to the battery for improved range.

The infotainment system includes Google Maps embedded with vehicle systems, allowing it to display your route and battery range on the same screen.

During longer drives, Google Maps will provide charging recommendations and range estimates based on your route and driving style.

Google Maps also syncs with Super Cruise driver assistance technology to show Super Cruise-capable routes that can be driven hands-free.

If DC fast charging is available on your route, automatic battery preconditioning will ensure optimal charging performance.

“Hey Google” voice assistance allows the driver to control cabin temperature, seat warmers, voice-to-text, and more, without using their hands.

Taking Charge

When paired with a GM Energy Home System, the Bolt could provide power to a properly equipped home during an outage.

The 2027 Bolt will have a native NACS charging port capable of DC fast charging.

Drivers will be able to charge from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes with public DC fast charging (more than 2.5x faster than previous models).

It will also have vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional capabilities that could power a home during a power outage.

The console includes an 11.3-inch center dash infotainment system and an 11-inch driver information center, both of which can be configured to the driver's preference.

The dash will have a mix of physical and virtual controls for the most frequently used features, like volume or climate control.

Additional features include open space storage under the instrument panel, wireless phone charging, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats.

It will also be available in the sporty RS trim with an exclusive color combination.

"From its introduction in model year 2017, Bolt was the first long-range, mass-produced EV available at an affordable MSRP," GM said in a recent press release.

The Bolt would go on to deliver some of the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty scores in the auto industry, at any MSRP, and was a leader in drawing new customers to Chevrolet, they added.

The 2027 Chevy Bolt will be assembled with domestically and globally sourced parts at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, and will be available at Chevrolet dealers in the first quarter of 2026.
