The Harris County (Texas) Sheriff’s Office will be purchasing a $1.1. million boat to help deputies respond to chemical spills. It is the first of the kind in the Gulf of Mexico, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The 44-foot boat will have a pressurized cabin to enable deputies to respond to chemical spills without being exposed to hazardous fumes. It is expected to be in operation in 2019.
In June, the Sheriff’s Office accepted a donation of five rescue boats from the 100 Club, a non-profit organization that offers support to dependents of law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. The group also donated five rescue boats to the Houston Police Department and four to the Houston Fire Department, Houston Public Media reported.
Government fleet sales rose from both January and February monthly totals, which were both under 20,000.
