Webb County, Texas, Commissioners approved the purchase of public safety and water utilities vehicles that will total over $5 million. The purchases were approved at commission meeting on June 27, according to LMT Online.

The largest purchase will go toward vehicles for a volunteer fire department:

  • 4 Pierce Freightliner M2, 106MD, 4x4 Four Door Responder Pumpers,

  • 1 Freightliner M2 Two Door FXT 3000 Gallon Tanker,

  • 4 Freightliner M2 106MD 4X4 Four Door Type 4 Step Side Brush Trucks, and

  • 1 Ford F 350 Metromedic Type 1 Ambulance.

The lease-purchase agreement also includes preventative maintenance. The total for the purchase is not to exceed $4.12 million, with financing terms of eight annual payments.

Commissioners also approved a police replacement investment not to exceed $878,359 to order law enforcement equipment for leased vehicles through Thin Line Upfitters , replacing 31 county-owned vehicles with at least 90,000 miles and/or vehicles that are 10 years old or more. The older units will be sold in a public auction once they are stripped of law enforcement markings and upfittings. LMT Online reports that the Webb County Sheriff, constables and the 406th District Court fleet will also receive 31 enhanced VHF mobile radios. Eighteen of the 31 units will also have WatchGuard In-Car video systems installed.

Commissioners also authorized its Economic Development Department to submit a 2022 Texas Community Development Block Grant Program Fire, Ambulance and Service Truck Fund application for up to $750,000 to purchase two brush trucks for a volunteer fire department. The application requires a $7,500 cash match.

The Water Utilities department will also receive two 2022 Walker 6,250 gallon water tankers to transpoort water to rural areas in the county. That purchase will cost around $420,696.
