Mike Joyce, fleet manager for Travis County, Texas, will retire on August 31 after serving in the role for more than 18 years.

Joyce oversees 1,700 units, ranging from sedans and SUVs to construction equipment and watercraft. The fleet is managed and maintained at two facilities with a staff of 32.

He began his career in 1973 as an equipment clerk and service advisor for a private company before becoming a fleet mechanic at the City of Pearland, Texas, in 1982. He rose through the ranks to become the city’s fleet manager, working on computerizing fleet data in the ‘90s. In 1999, he started at Travis County as its fleet manager, where he works with more than 25 departments on their fleet needs.

“Working for a government entity has proven to be the best move for me. The people I got to meet and make friends with at the county, at all the fleet conventions, and all the vendors I have done business with, have been awesome,” Joyce stated.
