Syler to Lead Ohio State Fleet
Darryl Syler, former fleet administrator for the No. 1 Small Fleet City of Dublin, Ohio, has been chosen to oversee the state's fleet management program.

Darryl Syler, former fleet manager for the City of Dublin, Ohio, has been appointed to oversee the State of Ohio's fleet management program. As the administrator of the Office of Fleet Management, housed within the General Services Division of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Syler will oversee the comprehensive motor vehicle management services DAS provides to state agencies. This includes vehicle purchases and disposal, leasing, motor pool management, fuel/maintenance procurement cards, manufacturer recall oversight, compliance reporting, accident management, and vehicle assignment authorizations.
“Darryl is a proven leader with valuable experience in the management of public sector fleets,” said Matt Damschroder, DAS director. “With a centrally managed fleet of 3,400 vehicles and 9,300 in self-managed agencies, Darryl is leading a key State function that must be well managed, cost-effective, and adaptive to innovations in transportation. I can’t think of anyone better equipped to further improve our operational performance and service delivery.”
Syler served as director of fleet management for the City of Dublin for eight years. Under Syler's leadership, the City of Dublin was named the No. 1 Small Fleet in the U.S. and Canada in 2018 and 2019. The fleet made it to Government Fleet's annual list of the 50 Leading Fleets in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
While working at the City of Dublin, Syler also built a reputation for his work with alternative fuels — he grew the city's compressed natural gas fleet, added electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, managed the city's vehicle involvement in Ohio's 33 Smart Mobility Corridor for autonomous vehicles, and implemented the fleet's GPS/AVL system and governing policy.
In 2014, Darryl Syler contributed to our Knowledge Sharing Series, in which experienced fleet leaders share what they've learned throughout their careers:
